Lecture: Work And Method – a curatorial agency

Work And Method is the name of a Parisian based agency run by the curators and critics François Piron and Guillaume Désanges. Last week, they held a talk at Index presenting their, well, work method(s). These range from the obvious production of gallery exhibitions to a very interesting spectre of less traditional work forms: touring lectures about the history of performance in collaboration with a professional actor, the establishment of a kind of mobile book store or the project (named "Société Anonyme" in a hommage to the 1920s Man Ray/Dreier/Duchamp racket) in the spirit of self organization where a number of alternative work structures from all over the world came together for a range of common activities – depending on what the situation demands, the curators will take on slightly different professional identities, hence their tongue in cheek "Barbapapa Model". WIRE later got together with Piron in a more casual setting at Moderna Museet to discuss the lecture and learn even more about their practice.

Do visit their space in Belleville, Paris, called Castillo Corrales!

WIRE is the MA programme in Critical Writing and Curatorial Practice at the art and design college Konstfack in Stockholm (WIRE = write, interpret, research, exhibit). In posts labeled The WIRE Diaries, you´ll find a continuous update on what we do and some reflections on it all. Note that these are hardly official Konstfack or WIRE evaluations but on my part only.
